Sidhivinayak taimes Shimla In a remarkable demonstration of medical excellence and inter-state coordination, PGIMER Chandigarh successfully facilitated the first deceased organ donation of 2026, giving new hope to three terminally ill patients. The donor, 40-year-old Harpinder Singh, sustained severe injuries in a road accident and was declared brain stem dead after receiving advanced critical care at PGIMER. In a courageous act of compassion, his family consented to organ donation, enabling both kidneys to be transplanted at PGIMER for patients suffering from end-stage renal disease.

Additionally, the donor’s lungs were transported via a green corridor to Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai, ensuring timely transplantation. Prof. Vivek Lal, Director of PGIMER, lauded the donor family’s selfless decision and highlighted the hospital’s commitment to promoting organ donation as a life-saving initiative. Medical teams emphasized that seamless coordination, ethical practice, and public awareness are key to strengthening India’s organ donation network. This milestone case underlines how courage and compassion can turn personal tragedy into life-saving opportunities, inspiring more families to consider organ donation as a noble act that can transform multiple lives.
