Sidhivinayak taimes Shimla। PGIMER, Chandigarh marked the eve of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti with a profound gesture of national service by organising its 23rd Mega Blood Donation Camp on 21 January 2026 at Zakir Hall, PGI. Organised by the Security Wing of PGIMER under the leadership of Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER, the camp reflected the institute’s commitment to patriotism, sacrifice and humanitarian service. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Radha Kant Ratho, Dean (Academics), and Prof. Ashok Kumar, Medical Superintendent, PGIMER, and was conducted by the expert team of the Department of Transfusion Medicine. Senior officials of PGIMER and dignitaries from U.T. Chandigarh attended the programme and lauded the Security Wing for transforming the occasion into a meaningful service-driven tribute to Netaji. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Radha Kant Ratho emphasised that voluntary blood donation is among the highest forms of service to the nation and stated that observing Netaji Jayanti through such an initiative reinforces the values of collective responsibility and compassion. Prof. Ashok Kumar echoed these sentiments, noting that commemorating Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose through life-saving acts such as blood donation truly reflects his ideals of courage, discipline and selflessness.

The camp was organised under the administrative stewardship of Prof. Vipin Koushal, Medical Superintendent, PGIMER, with key coordination support from Dr. Rajeev Chauhan, Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, ensuring smooth inter-departmental collaboration. Held under the supervision of Sh. Gursharan Singh Korey, Chief Security Officer, PGI, the camp witnessed an enthusiastic response, with 510 volunteers from diverse backgrounds—including doctors, nurses, students, technicians, security staff and personnel from CRPF and CISF—donating blood. Several others were deferred due to medical or time-related constraints. In a significant addition, 37 participants pledged for organ donation and were registered with ROTTO, PGIMER, highlighting the institute’s sustained advocacy for organ and tissue donation. Senior officers of PGIMER and security forces led from the front by donating blood, inspiring others to participate. Donors were felicitated with refreshments, meals and mementos sponsored by various supporting organisations, reinforcing the spirit of appreciation for voluntary service.
