First Model Immunization Centre (MIC) inaugurated in UT Chandigarh

To improve quality and coverage of immunization in Children, , the first MIC at 3rd Floor, OPD Block, GMSH 16, on 10th October 2023 by Dr. Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh in presence of Secretary Health, Director Health Services, District Immunization Officer along with other officers of health department, HODs  from PGIMER, GMCH 32, representatives from Immunization Technical Support Unit( ITSU) Ministry of Health & Family Welfare , John Snow India ( JSI) , WHO, UNDP, Regional AEFI secretariat and other NGOs.

This centre at GMSH 16 will be the First Centre Of Excellence is Chandigarh as it will also be equipped with teaching facility for health professionals where staff will be trained to improve immunization skills/ knowledge. Adviser to the administrator has also inaugurated District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) on the same floor. This centre will provide services to needy children through therapists like Audiologist, Physiologist, Refractionist  to improve capabilities of children with birth defects and disabilities.

The Health Department Chandigarh has planned to establish 10 Model Immunization Centres ( MIC) in UT Chandigarh. The idea behind this initiative is to boost public confidence in immunization services being provided in Govt hospitals and dispensaries, increase acceptability of vaccines in community, better management of Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) and good cold chain maintenance. The MIC will provide (1)Children friendly ambience and atmosphere ( 2) Safe and clean playing area with soft toys ,slides, bungee jumping, balls, teaching aides, learning material for psychomotor development of children (3) Adequate and comfortable seating arrangements for parents/ guardians (4) AEFI management area (5) Breast Feeding enclosure for lactating mothers (6) Entertainment facilities for children and parents (7)  Children Library (8) Drinking  water (9) Teaching area for health staff. (10) Well trained Vaccination staff.

The work on rest of MICs in Chandigarh is also going on in full swing, site selection has been completed and these centres will also be functional soon. With all these 10 MICs Chandigarh will be first State/ UT in country to have such numbers of MICs.

Immunization Department UT Chandigarh has already scored excellent achievements in GOI key indicators

1. Full Immunization of Children=103%( Target- 95%)
2. AEFI surveillance= First in Country with 98.3 % score and Declared as Excellent Performing State by MoHFW.
3. MR 1/ MR 2 (Measles and Rubella) =98%( Target-95%)
4. Measles Rubella Elimination Checklist =100%
5. Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 = More than 100%
6. Non Measles Non Rubella ( NMNR) Discard Rate = 5.57 per Lac ( Target-2 per Lac)
7. Pulse Polio Achievement =105%
8. Adequate Sample Rate (Polio) = FIRST in country with 100% ( Target 80%)
9. Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) Rate =5.2 per Lac (Target 2 per Lac)
10. Cold Chain Management= Sickness Rate ZERO ( First in country)
11. Temperature Loggers Installation = 100%
