The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, celebrated its 39th Convocation today with great dignity, where 682 graduates across various medical disciplines were conferred degrees and 95 meritorious students were honoured with medals. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, attended as the Chief Guest and emphasized that while technology like AI and telemedicine will drive the future of medicine, compassion and the human touch must remains its soul. He highlighted India’s significant healthcare transformation, noting that medical colleges have increased from 387 to 820 over the last decade, with a target to add 75,000 more seats in the next five years. During the ceremony, PGIMER Director Prof. Vivek Lal shared the institute’s impactful achievements, including delivering over 40 lakh free tele-consultations through eSanjeevani and utilizing ₹650 crore under Ayushman Bharat to treat more than 2.5 lakh patients. The event, also attended by Punjab Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria and Dr. Vinod K. Paul, concluded with a powerful reminder to the new doctors that their medical degree is a lifelong responsibility towards humanity, rooted in the institute’s “patient first” philosophy.
