Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, along with his Cabinet colleagues, attended a crucial meeting chaired by Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi at 10, Rajaji Marg, New Delhi on Friday.
The meeting focused primarily on the proposed withdrawal of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) and its financial implications for Himachal Pradesh. The Chief Minister expressed concern over the potential fiscal strain on the hill state if the grant is discontinued, emphasizing the need for continued central support to maintain developmental momentum.
Another significant issue discussed was the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and its possible repercussions on Himachal Pradesh’s apple-based economy. Leaders deliberated on how reduced import duties on foreign apples could adversely impact local growers, who form the backbone of the state’s rural economy.
The discussions also covered broader economic and organizational matters, with a focus on safeguarding the interests of the state and ensuring policy-level intervention where necessary.
The meeting reflects the state leadership’s proactive approach in raising financial and agricultural concerns at the national level.
