Heavy snowfall and continuous rainfall in Himachal Pradesh over the past few days have severely damaged roads and pathways in Pangi (Chamba district) and Lahaul-Spiti, causing the closure of several routes. As a result, the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board has been unable to deliver question papers and other examination materials to these remote areas.
To ensure fairness and minimize disruption for students, the board has postponed the annual examinations for Classes 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 in these affected regions. The exams, originally scheduled to begin on March 4, will now commence from March 8 in Pangi and Lahaul-Spiti. However, in the rest of the state, the exams will proceed as per schedule from March 4.
Contingency Plan Based on Weather Conditions
Board Secretary Dr. Major Vishal Sharma stated that if weather conditions improve and the examination materials reach the affected regions on time, all pending exams will be conducted after March 8, alongside the remaining state-wide exams. The revised dates for postponed examinations in Pangi and Lahaul-Spiti will be announced accordingly.
Exam Arrangements & Anti-Cheating Measures
This year, approximately 1.95 lakh students are set to appear for the Class 10 and 12 board exams. To accommodate this, the number of exam centers has been increased from 2,250 last year to 2,300 this year.
To ensure a fair and transparent examination process, the board will deploy its own flying squads, along with additional teams from various administrative levels, to prevent malpractice and cheating.
Further updates regarding the rescheduled exams will be provided based on weather conditions and logistical feasibility.
