Sidhivinayaktimes Shimla। In a significant move to enhance emergency cardiac care, PGIMER Chandigarh is set to operationalize its long-awaited Dedicated Cardiac Emergency Facility from 1st March 2026. The initiative aims to address a critical gap in the management of acute cardiac cases, which until now were handled through the general Emergency wing along with trauma, medical, surgical, and critically ill patients from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and surrounding areas. Sharing the development, Prof. Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER*l, emphasized the importance of creating a focused pathway exclusively for cardiac emergencies. “Cardiovascular emergencies are time-critical. Our goal is to ensure no cardiac patient loses precious time due to logistical bottlenecks,” he stated. Prof. Lal also highlighted that the new facility has been made possible through coordinated efforts of the Departments of Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia, Hospital Administration, and Nursing Services. The Dedicated Cardiac Emergency is expected not only to provide timely, life-saving care but also to decongest the main Emergency wing, improving patient flow and reducing stress for both patients and their attendants. “This is more than an infrastructural addition; it is a system-strengthening initiative designed to enhance responsiveness in critical care,” Prof. Lal added. With the facility becoming operational from 1st March, PGIMER reinforces its commitment to focused, patient-centric emergency cardiac care where every second counts.
