Indian Navy Marine Commando (MARCOS) and Shaurya Chakra awardee Amit Singh Rana (32) lost his life in a tragic road accident late Monday night in the Lahadu area of Khandian under the Jwalamukhi region of Kangra district. The incident occurred when his car plunged nearly 500 feet into a deep gorge. The accident was confirmed by Dehra Superintendent of Police Mayank Chaudhary.
According to reports, Amit Rana was returning home after meeting a friend when he lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a sharp bend at Lahadu around 11 p.m. The vehicle veered off the road and fell into the gorge.
Local residents immediately launched a rescue effort and, after considerable difficulty, managed to retrieve him from the ravine around midnight. He was rushed to Khandian Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The final rites of the brave soldier were performed with full military honors in his native village on Tuesday. Jwalamukhi MLA Sanjay Ratna expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and paid tribute to Rana’s service to the nation.
Amit Singh Rana is survived by his parents, wife, four-year-old son, and two sisters. His untimely death has left the entire region in shock and mourning.
Rana was awarded the prestigious Shaurya Chakra for displaying exceptional courage during counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir. As part of Operation Rakshak in 2018, he participated in several high-risk missions against terrorist hideouts under extremely challenging conditions.
According to available information, he played a significant role in a series of successful operations that led to the elimination of eight terrorists. His bravery, determination, and professional excellence in difficult terrain and dense forest areas earned him widespread recognition and one of the country’s highest peacetime gallantry awards.
