CHANDIGARH – Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar has launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab following the Central Government’s decision to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees. Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jakhar noted that while the Central Government has raised the DA by 2%, bringing the total rate to 60%, the Punjab government continues to provide its employees with only 42%.
Jakhar emphasized that several DA installments remain pending in the state, leading to a massive financial backlog. He pointed out that the Honorable High Court has already recognized Dearness Allowance as a fundamental right of employees, making it obligatory for the state to bridge the gap.
The BJP leader further demanded that the Punjab government immediately increase the DA rates to match the Centre and release the ₹15,000 crore in pending arrears, which include delayed DA payments and Pay Commission benefits. He urged the state administration to stop the delay and fulfill its financial commitments to the workforce without further excuses.
