Siddhivinayak Taimes Shimla। PGIMER Chandigarh reaffirmed its leadership in innovative health communication by organizing the 4th Photography Workshop, focusing on the growing importance of clinical photography and videography in health awareness and patient education. Addressing the participants as Chief Guest, Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER, emphasized that visual documentation in healthcare serves as a vital link between medical science and society by fostering awareness, understanding and empathy. He noted that accurate and ethical medical visuals play an increasingly significant role in public health education, research communication and dispelling myths surrounding diseases, while applauding the Department of Clinical Photography for its consistent contributions to medical visual excellence.
The workshop, themed around health awareness and patient education, highlighted how evidence-based and compassionate visual content can enhance disease understanding and improve patient engagement. A technical session conducted in collaboration with Canon introduced participants to advanced imaging technologies, contemporary camera systems and the emerging use of artificial intelligence in medical imaging. Under the leadership of Prof. Parmjeet Singh, Head of the Department, the Department of Clinical Photography showcased its nationally and internationally acclaimed work, including award-winning health awareness films created by its students. Expert interaction with National Film Award–winning director Dr. Rajeev Kumar enriched the programme with insights into ethical visual storytelling in healthcare. The event also featured sessions by faculty members on multidisciplinary training approaches, and concluded with the announcement of a photowalk at the Garden of Silence, Sukhna Lake, aimed at providing hands-on experience in observation, composition and storytelling, further reinforcing PGIMER’s commitment to advancing patient-centric health communication.
