Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation and Vice Chairman of the Tourism Development Board (Cabinet Rank), R.S. Bali, attended the DCC Conexus 2025 programme at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, as the chief guest on Tuesday. Congratulating the institution on the commencement of its first batch of nursing students, he described the occasion as a major milestone in the college’s academic journey.
Addressing the gathering, Bali announced the construction of separate hostels for boys and girls for nursing trainees at an estimated cost of ₹5 crore. He said the hostels would be equipped with AIIMS-like modern facilities, aimed at providing a comfortable and supportive learning environment. Highlighting advancements in healthcare services, he said robotic surgery has been introduced at Tanda Medical College, benefiting thousands of patients and strengthening advanced medical care in Himachal Pradesh. Describing Tanda as one of the state’s premier medical institutions, Bali said it now offers facilities comparable to those of AIIMS.
On his arrival, the chief guest was accorded a warm welcome by Principal Dr. Milap Sharma, senior faculty members and trainee doctors. The programme began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by colourful cultural performances presented by trainee doctors, which captivated the audience. Bali also honoured dignitaries present on the occasion with mementos.
Recalling the contributions of late G.S. Bali, whom he termed the “Man of Development,” R.S. Bali said the establishment of Tanda Medical College was his vision, which has today emerged as a leading healthcare institution attracting patients from far-flung areas. He added that the opening of the nursing college at Tanda—another long-cherished dream of late G.S. Bali—has finally been realised, marking a proud achievement for the institution.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Whip of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly and Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania on Tuesday inspected the Automated Testing Station (ATS) under construction at Gahlian in the Shahpur assembly constituency. Being developed on about 40 kanals of land, the ATS will soon be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, he informed.
Pathania said the facility will be Himachal Pradesh’s first Automated Testing Station, eliminating the need for vehicle owners to wait for specific days for fitness testing of LMV and HMV vehicles. He added that the entire testing process—from vehicle entry to exit—will be completed in less than 20 minutes. A well-equipped waiting lounge will also be provided, while fitness certificates will be uploaded directly to the Vahan portal, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
The MLA also inspected the site of the proposed Shri Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding School at Rait in the Shahpur constituency. He said construction of the school building will begin shortly at a total cost of ₹5 crore, adding that the first installment of ₹1.50 crore has already been released.
Earlier, Pathania reviewed the progress of the Rait–Jhirballa road, being constructed using FDR technology at a cost of ₹7.35 crore. He directed officials to expedite the work, stating that the road will significantly improve transportation facilities for local residents.
