The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) will commence the Class 10 and Class 12 annual examinations for regular as well as State Open School (HPSOS) students simultaneously from March 3, 2026. In a major reform aimed at enhancing transparency and fairness, the Board has abolished the traditional A, B and C question paper series this year.
Announcing the examination schedule at a press conference on Friday, HPBOSE Chairman Dr. Rajesh Sharma said that while the question papers will no longer differ by series, question shuffling will be used to change the sequence of questions. He said this step would strengthen fairness in evaluation and improve the credibility of the merit list.
Dr. Sharma said that in line with the National Education Policy (NEP), the Board has modernized the examination pattern to better prepare students for competitive exams such as JEE and NEET. As part of this reform, 20 percent of the total marks will be based on Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
To reduce examination-related stress, the Board has uploaded model question papers and a comprehensive question bank on its official website, enabling students to familiarize themselves with the revised format well in advance.
The Board has also set an ambitious target of declaring results in record time. “Special evaluation centres will be established and assessment work will be carried out on a war footing,” Dr. Sharma said, adding that the Board aims to declare results by April 30, 2026.
To ensure strict vigilance, all examination centres will be monitored through CCTV cameras from the Dharamshala headquarters. Special flying squads have been deployed for sensitive and highly sensitive centres. The Chairman warned that any instance of mass copying or indiscipline would lead to cancellation of the examination at the concerned centre, along with strict action against responsible staff.
He further informed that practical examinations will be conducted from February 20 to February 28, and roll numbers along with admit cards will soon be made available to schools through the online portal.
Dr. Rajesh Sharma appealed to students, parents, and teachers to extend full cooperation in conducting fair, transparent, and cheating-free examinations across the state.
