The mortal remains of Wing Commander Namnash Syal, who lost his life in the tragic Tejas aircraft crash during a demonstration at the Dubai Air Show on Friday, reached his native village Patialakkar today. A wave of grief and pride swept through the region as thousands gathered to pay their last respects to the brave Air Force officer.
A special Indian Air Force aircraft brought the mortal remains to Gaggal Airport around 1 pm on Sunday. His parents, wife, and young daughter accompanied the body. His wife, Wing Commander Afshan, arrived in full Air Force uniform and saluted her martyred husband before accompanying him on his final journey.
From the airport, the body was taken to Patialakkar village, where emotional scenes unfolded as people lined the route to honour their hometown hero. The last rites were performed at Mokshadham with full military honours. His cousin, Nishant, lit the funeral pyre.
Senior officials, public representatives, and military officers paid tribute by laying wreaths. Among them were Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvinder Singh Goma, Tourism Corporation Chairman (Cabinet Rank) R.S. Bali, HRTC Vice Chairman Ajay Verma, Deputy Commissioner Kangra Hemraj Bairwa, Superintendent of Police Dehra Mayank Chaudhary, SDM Manish Sharma, former minister Vipin Singh Parmar, former MLA Arun Mehra, and officers from the Indian Army and Air Force.
Speaking on the occasion, officials expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and said the nation would forever remember the supreme sacrifice of Wing Commander Syal.
Family acquaintances shared that Wing Commander Syal was posted at the Selaur Airbase. His wife is currently undergoing training at IIM Kolkata. The couple has a daughter studying in the first grade. His parents lived with their daughter-in-law and granddaughter. He is also survived by his sister, who is married in Hamirpur.
The entire region mourned the untimely loss of the valiant pilot, whose service and sacrifice will remain etched in the nation’s memory.
