Sidhivinayak time’s Shimla PGIMER Chandigarh has added another national honour to its achievements with the Oral Health Sciences Centre receiving top recognition at the 53rd National Conference of the Indian Prosthodontic Society held from December 4 to 7 in Navi Mumbai. Prof. Sudhir Bhandari was awarded first prize in the faculty presentation under the *Aavishkar* category for his pioneering work in the field of maxillofacial prosthetics.The award-winning presentation highlighted the development of a custom-made ocular prosthesis embedded with Braille, created for a six-year-old child with complete visual impairment in both eyes. This innovative and patented approach marks the first reported use of Braille in maxillofacial prosthetics, offering a unique sensory interface for visually impaired patients.
The project was the result of a collaborative effort involving Dr. Bhavita Wadwa, Associate Professor at the Oral Health Sciences Centre; Dr. Usha Singh, Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology; and Dr. Manisha Khanna, Senior Research Fellow at OHSC. The national recognition by the apex body of prosthodontics underscores PGIMER’s commitment to innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centred care. the achievement reflects the institute’s continued focus on translating research into meaningful clinical solutions and reinforces PGIMER’s standing as a leader in advanced healthcare and academic excellence.
