The second day of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly’s Winter Session began amid protests by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs at Tapovan, Dharamshala. The opposition legislators walked through the Assembly complex holding placards and raising slogans against the state government, alleging a halt in development due to the suspension of MLA Area Development and discretionary funds.
Led by Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur, BJP MLAs accused the Sukhu-led government of withholding development and treasury payments, resulting in stalled works across constituencies. They demanded immediate restoration of these funds.
Inside the House, Jairam Thakur clarified his statement made during yesterday’s proceedings, stating that he had not referred to the closure of any government scheme or the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). “We are not those who act out of political vendetta,” he said.
The Assembly is continuing debate on the adjournment motion moved by the opposition regarding the delay in Panchayat elections. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Jairam Thakur engaged in multiple heated exchanges over the issue. CM Sukhu is expected to respond to the discussion once all members have spoken.
Deputy CM Absent From Session
Speculation is rife over the absence of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri from the House. Sources say he is in Delhi to attend his daughter’s wedding reception and had left for the event on Wednesday evening.
Earlier in the morning, before the session began, Chief Minister Sukhu was seen taking a walk in Dharamshala’s Kachari Bazaar, where he interacted with local residents.
