Sidhivinayak time’s Shimla : Panjab University received a major boost to its academic resources with alumnus and former faculty member Prof D N Jauhar creating a Rs 3 crore endowment for the Department of Laws through the donation of a one-kanal plot in Mohali. The endowment agreement—signed by PU officials in the presence of Vice Chancellor Prof Renu Vig and members of Prof Jauhar’s family—marks one of the most significant individual contributions to the university in recent years. The proceeds from the property will form the Prof D N Jauhar Endowment, with funds earmarked to support key academic initiatives, including an International Law Moot Court Competition, an annual lecture, and a yearly award recognising excellence.

While 60 per cent of the income generated will be channelled into academic activities, the remaining 40 per cent will be reinvested to ensure long-term sustainability. Prof Vig hailed the gesture as a model example of alumni commitment, praising Prof Jauhar for strengthening the department’s academic profile. Reflecting on his lifelong association with PU—from student to faculty member to department chair—Prof Jauhar said the contribution was guided by his principle of “Learn, Earn and Return,” underscoring his dedication to supporting future generations of law scholars.
